"All businesses have some impact on the environment. Even the simple act of switching on a light has some environment impact. As a business owner or manager, it is our responsibility to ensure that whatever our level of impact, that impact is managed appropriately and minimised where possible."
(Business SA, 2002, p. 2)
When your corporate colours are orange and blue, it takes a special group of people to go green!
At TickTax Australia, we are committed to managing our operations in an environmentally responsible manner. To ensure that such environmentally responsible behaviour is an integral part of how we do business, we specifically undertake to:
- Comply with existing environmental regulations;
- Use natural resources, including raw materials, energy, and water as efficiently and cost-effectively as we can;
- Reduce pollution, emissions and waste;
- Maximise recycling and reuse opportunities;
- Use paper products from sustainable (managed) forests;
- Encourage use of public transport, cycling and walking;
- Raise awareness, encourage participation and train employees; and
- Monitor progress and review performance (usually annually).
As our business is office-based, we had to be innovative to find meaningful things that we could change. We are implementing 28 action points to reduce our carbon footprint. Some examples are:
- undertaking an Energy Efficiency Assessment conducted by Fieldforce Environmental
- signing up for "green" electricity
- locating our offices near railway stations and having TransLink GoCards available for staff travelling between those offices
- sourcing office supplies and other materials from environmentally friendly suppliers
- ensuring that the majority of our paper (we use a lot) has recycled content
- returning printer toner cartridges to Planet Ark for recycling
- purchasing second-hand furniture and electronic goods (e.g. ex-government computers) for our back office workstations as this reuses items that are otherwise destined for landfill and also eliminates the environmental impact of producing these items brand new
- where our landlords do not supply recycling bins, we collect our recyclables and take them home for recycling.
Come in and talk to us about some of the other things that we are doing to make a difference.
